Photorejuvenation/IPL

Lumecca operates using photothermolysis, which delivers a comfortable and effective light treatment.

Lumecca is a very powerful intense pulsed light (IPL) that treats pigmented and vascular lesions.  After just one use, you will notice significant improvement in the complexion and clarity of your skin. It can be used on all areas of the body, but is most commonly used on the face, neck, décolletage, hands and arms.

As the calibrated light waves pulse and heat the surface of your skin, pigmented spots will be pulled to the surface. (Each pulse will appear as a bright flash of light.) These flakes of pigment will darken and slough off over the next few days. The device’s heat also stimulates your body’s natural collagen production, making pores look smaller and skin look firmer and smoother. Lumecca (IPL) treats vascular conditions as well. It has been used to effectively treat the redness associated with rosacea and the removal of broken facial veins.

Benign Pigmented Lesions that can be treated with the Lumecca IPL:

Freckles

Freckles are small flat brown marks arising on the face and other sun exposed areas. They are most often seen in fair skinned people, but they are an inherited characteristic that sometimes affects darker skin types as well. As the person ages this type of freckle generally become more noticeable. It can be lightened by avoiding sun exposure and with the regular use of sunblocks and whitening creams. They can be safely removed by intense pulsed light therapy (IPL) or  laser therapy.

Lentigines

Larger flat brown spots on the face and hands arising in middle age also result from sun damage exposure. Commonly known as age spots or liver spots, the correct term for a single lesion is solar lentigo (plural lentigines). Lentigines are due to localised proliferation of melanocytes. It is important to distinguish the harmless solar lentigo which does not turn cancerous from an early malignant melanoma (skin cancer). Similarly, they can be lightened by avoiding sun exposure and with the regular use of sunblocks and whitening creams. They can also be safely removed by intense pulsed light therapy (IPL), electrocautery or laser therapy.

Melasma

Melasma is a common skin problem. It causes brown to gray-brown patches, usually on the face. Most people get it on their cheeks, bridge of their nose, forehead, chin, and above their upper lip. Women are far more likely than men to get melasma. It is so common during pregnancy that melasma is sometimes called "the mask of pregnancy." Hormones seem to trigger melasma.
