Newsletter #2: Profractional Laser

After years of being in business, we have listened to the needs and desires of our patients. You’ve said that you want to have healthy, younger looking, less damaged skin, but you don’t want the pain, risk or the down time associated with current technologies like ablative resurfacing or the Fraxel. You have also said you want results that are affordable. Well, we have listened and after much research, we are very excited to announce the arrival of the Profractional laser by Sciton. This state of the art technology is the latest advance in the fractional laser family. Unlike nonablative fractional technology like the Fraxel, the Profractional uses an erbium laser for an ablative procedure which removes microcolumns of damaged tissue in the area being treated. Nonablative technology like the Fraxel, leaves thousands of microcolumns of hot necrotic tissue behind in the treated skin. This causes excess heat from the debris to be trapped in the skin causing pain and swelling. The Profractional decreases unwanted collateral damage by removing necrotic tissue and unnecessary heat, providing patients with a more comfortable treatment experience. These clean microchannels have the same impact on collagen stimulation in the surrounding tissue as nonablative lasers, without the sloughing, irritation, and pain. The channels then close rapidly to speed recovery, in comparison to nonablative procedures which have protracted swelling, rednessn , and discomfort.
The unique aspect of the Profractional is the ability to tailor a patient’s treatment specifically to their needs. The depth and the percentage of the skin to be treated are determined at the time of treatment. For example, texture and tone can be targeted using a more shallow setting and a slightly higher percentage of the skin to be treated. At the same time, dynamic wrinkles can be treated with deeper penetration and treating less surface area. Both these settings will encourage collagen to be built up in the appropriate depth of tissue. Many patients want collagen to be built up to help improve texture and tone, but don’t want to deal with downtime and the need for analgesics. This can be easily done with repeated shallow treatments, and the patient will still see results comparable to deep resurfacing without the risk and down time.
One of the most exciting aspects of the Profractional is in the treatment of acne scars. With deep treatment, yet small percentages of surface area being treated, ice pick and crater scars are showing an excellent response, even after one treatment. Again, the treatment is not uncomfortable and down time is minimal.
Life gets busy, and it seems like it is difficult to find the time to do things for ourselves. The Profractional now is making it easier for you. Little downtime, little disruption of your daily routine, but great results. How much more could you want? At Image Antiaging we are interested in meeting the needs of our patients with effective, affordable, quality medical care. The Profractional is another step we’ve taken to help you to achieve your goals of a healthy, rejuvenated you.
